SOUND STORIES

Stefan Temmingh (recorder & csakan)
Margret Koell (triple harp & single action harp)

Music from five centuries and six countries, played on nine recorders and three harps – awarded with “5 diapason” by French music magazine Diapason:

Sound Stories”, the new CD project of recorder player Stefan Temmingh and baroque harpist Margret Koell, is a plea for diversity: Full of curiosity and a thirst foradventure, with a variety of genres and styles, the two invite their listeners to discover these musical stories!

“Our repertoire is indeed a wild, extravagant and sensual mix. The album seems very intuitive to us, and I am sure to others as well. However, our artistic decisions are shaped by experience, by our knowledge, by cultural and political circumstances, by shared personal themes and not least by the current global situation.” (Stefan Temmingh)

Thus, it is no coincidence that the pieces by Danish composer Thomas Koppel, written in 1992, continue to address burning issues of our time: “I know you’re crossing the borders somewhere” and “There I dance my dance on black feet”. A positive example on the other hand is “Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla, which has spread throughout the music world as if there were no boundaries.

“Sound Stories” is a work of art that has evolved over the years, consisting of songs, sonatas, variations and dance movements, almost resembling one of the more colourful programmes from the 19th century. Works by Bach, van Eyck, Gluck and Scarlatti encounter, for example, the world premiere recording of an atmospheric new composition by Klaus Lang. – A truly captivating ‘playlist’ of interwoven sound stories, presented by two of the internationally leading soloists on their instruments!
