The Quintessence of the Berlin Philharmonic – Russian master cellist Tatjana Vassiljeva is joined by the strings of the Berlin Philhamonic Thomas Timm (leader 2nd violins), Romano Tommasini, Wolfgang Talirz and Janusz Widzyk. The Philharmonic String Quintet Berlin is unique in that the addition of the double bass allows them to act like a one-to-a-part string orchestra.
The ensemble crosses the boundaries between pure chamber music and symphonic dimensions. At its many concerts throughout Europe, Japan and China the Philharmonic String Quintet Berlin plays original works as well as arrangements for string orchestras. The pieces gain tremendously in delicacy and liberty, without losing their richness of sound.
